February Book Review {2017}

Monday, Monday, Monday.

To be honest, I'm ready to conquer the next several weeks with all of this warm, beautiful weather! Here in Atlanta, it has been in the 70's and sunny for the past few days. As far as I'm concerned, it can stay that way for as long as it wants!

It's one of my FAVORITE posts of the month because today I'm sharing all of the wonderful books I read in February! Just like last month, I have four great recommendations and one that you could probably skip over.

This quote is so accurate.

Let's start with the not-so-great book to go ahead and get it out of the way!

When reading the synopsis of this book, it sounded intriguing and I had to check it out even though I don't know anyone who's ever read it. Sisters One, Two, Three wasn't a bad book, it was just very long, drawn out and if I'm being brutally honest, kind of boring. Another downside is that one of the main characters, Glory, was unbearably annoying.

Sisters One, Two, Three is about a family who is tragically affected by an accident on Martha's Vineyard long ago when the children were young. The family's long kept secret comes to light at the same time that Ginger, one of the sisters is having trouble with her rebellious teenage daughter. How will Ginger deal with the troubles of today, and also the fear of the past?

I would rate this book 2.5 out of 5

I said this last month but Shay over at Mix and Match Mama has gotten me totally hooked on Elin Hilderbrand books. I haven't yet gotten to one that I don't like, and I have a feeling that I probably won't. Winter Street is the first book of the only series that Elin Hilderbrand has written. I loooooooved this book and was able to read the entire thing in a few hours.

Winter Street is set in Nantucket, where father Kelley Quinn lives with his wife and his four children. Their family owns and runs Nantucket's Winter Street Inn and are all at very different stages of their lives. As the family prepares for Winter Stroll Weekend at the Inn, Kelley walks in on Mitzi (his wife) kissing Santa Claus. As if the Quinn children don't have enough drama going on in their lives, Kelley now has some of his own. Who will save Winter Stroll Weekend and keep their holiday traditions alive?

I give this book a 4.5 out of 5

Of course after I blew through Winter Street, I had to run out and pick up Winter Stroll, the sequel. I breezed through this one just as fast as the last! The second book of this series did not disappoint and now I need to pick up the third book because I'm dying to know how things work out for these characters! For those of you who have read these books, does Mitzi remind you of Frankie, Lily Tomlin's character from Grace and Frankie? She's the exact face that I picture for Mitzi.

Winter Stroll takes place a year after the last book ended, once again being Winter Stroll Weekend in Nantucket. The past year has been a difficult one for Kelley Quinn, as one of his children is missing in the Middle East, another serving time in jail, and his wife living her new life with Santa. When Mitzi shows back up at the Inn, Kelley is forced to deal with his mixed emotions of missing his wife and being angry at her for what she did. How will Winter Stroll Weekend be successful with life not being as years past?

I give this one a 4.5 out of 5

Oh my goodness. If I had to give one word that would describe this book, it would be sweet. I didn't anticipate liking this book as much as I did. The personality of Ove and the neighbors were just so endearing and also funny.

A Man Called Ove is about a very grumpy man who considers himself the keeper of the neighborhood. In Ove's mind, no other idiots in the neighborhood would be able to handle anything on their own. A new family moves in across the street and challenges Ove's strict principles and his rigid personality. This is a great book that shows life is much better lived in the company of others.

I give this one a 4.5 out of 5

Last but not least, my favorite book of the month. Lots of people have recommended this one to me and I was super excited to read it! I can't even describe how good this book was and I haven't stopped thinking about it since I finished the last page. I have never had such a vast array of emotions while reading one book. I felt everything from frustration, to love, anger and sympathy all while reading It Ends With Us. Do yourself a favor and pick up a copy right now. Seriously, click here to buy it now.

It Ends With Us begins with Lily, a girl working hard to make her way into the world. One night she meets Ryle, a super attractive neurosurgeon.  His attraction towards her is electrifying and undeniable. Lily can't stop thinking about him, even when he tells her that he is unable to give her what she wants out of their connection. About the same time, Lily's childhood love pops back into her life, threatening to ruin any future with Ryle.

This one gets a whopping 5 out of 5

Whew! I consider this month a huge success! Looking forward to great suggestions for March!

Leslie

It's Friday once again, folks! It's my absolute favorite day of the week because not only do I get read all of your favorites, but it's almost the weekend!!!!

I've been searching for the best wedge sandals for the spring season and I think I finally found the perfect pair! Hopefully they look just as great on my feet! I can't wait to wear these babies with some white skinnies!

For those of you who followed my detox yesterday, here's my update for today:

Day 2

9:30 - First drink of the day and I'm ready to get this detox over with. I slept GREAT last night but woke up with a headache. It quickly went away after a cup of the juice.

12:30 - Doing great! Not really hungry at all. It's crazy how your body adjusts to changes so quickly.

2:30 - Feeling great! My skin feels like it's glowing and I have lots of energy.

6:30 - Almost done with the gallon already. I have to pace myself in order to have something to drink later.

8:30 - Last glass of the night! Feels awesome to be done!

As far as my thoughts on the whole process, they are as follows:

- The first day is the hardest by far!
- The second day you have lots of energy
- If you're not a big liquid drinker, getting through the gallons will be hard
- You have to use the restroom approx. 15 times each hour lol
- Drinking water along with the juice is nearly impossible
- I feel awesome and want to keep my body full of fresh and healthy foods.
- Lost exactly 3 pounds, which I assume is water weight.

It was a good experience and I would recommend it to anyone looking to cleanse their bodies and get a nice "reboot!"

That's all for this week! I hope everyone has the best weekend!

As always, follow my personal Instagram, Jewelry Instagram for lots of cool updates!

Leslie

Bachelor Viewing Party + Detox Part 1

Thursday is here already. How is it that a normal work week goes by so slowly but during a vacation it flies by?

I am using every minute of this week off to catch up on my shows, books, and much needed house duties! I feel very fortunate to have this time off because not all counties in GA have this break.

Before the break, my other firstie teammates and I decided to have a fun Bachelor Viewing get together! I hosted it at my house since it's kind of in between everyone else! Here's a look into the fun!

Menu

Jalapeno Popper Dip
"Crack" Dip
White Chocolate Popcorn
Hummus
7 Layer Mexican Dip
Cupcakes
Chocolate Covered Strawberries
Oreo Truffles
Cheese tray
Brushetta

Needless to say, the food choices were phenomenal! I wish we had remembered to get a picture of everyone together! Boo.

We all had a great time watching Nick during his hometown dates and feel very unsure about who will go home next (Hopefully Rachel considering she's already announced as the next Bachelorette). Also, if there are any more "to be continued" episodes, I might scream.

On another note, I've been doing a fairly good job eating better and being more active per my New Year's Resolutions. I've been looking into cleanses that flush out any bad toxins in my body and found one that's local to Atlanta. I decided to give it a go.

If you've never heard of a detox, this is what Arden's Garden says about it.

"Fresh juice is gentle and healing. Juice is a live food carrying vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and enzymes to the body quickly and efficiently. You need enzymes for cleansing and rebuilding, and you need antioxidants to fight aging and dangerous free radicals. You also need liquids to continuously flush the system and carry away toxins. As far as your digestive system is concerned, raw juice is almost invisible since it requires virtually no digestion. Nutrients are absorbed and utilized with minimal work, giving your system a chance to rest without suffering deprivation."

I think that it's a whole lot of jargon to say you're "rebooting" your body.

This 2 Day Detox requires you to drink one gallon of juice per day, with no food at all. You may drink as much water as you would like. I jotted down my thoughts yesterday, so I'm going to share what it was like.

Day 1

9:30 - I'm feeling optimistic! My verdict after the first taste was that the juice is very bitter and the grapefruit flavor is strong. It's not terrible. Before finishing my first 24 oz glass, I was having thoughts of what I was going to have for lunch....oh wait. :(

12:30 - Every time I walk to the fridge to refill my glass, I have to look at all the delicious leftovers from Bachelor night. My stomach is growling and feeling very empty at this point.

2:30 - Ended up falling asleep while reading a book and took a two hour nap.

4:30 I woke up with a big headache, but it went away quickly after drinking more juice.

6:30 - The hunger pain has gone away. It seems like this gallon jug is never ending. Dreading drinking what I have left, which is way more than I thought.

8:30 - Still okay as far as hunger is concerned. All day long I dreamt of food and how badly I wanted whatever came to mind. Now, the thought of food makes me cringe.

11:30 -  FINALLY finished the last drop! I was really worried that I wouldn't be able to finish, but I powered through and made it!

Toughest part about day one? Not the fact that I missed out on actual food all day long, but forcing myself to down that much liquid. My body isn't used to that at all.

Tomorrow along with Friday Favorites, I'll give you the update about how day two goes! From what I've heard, day two is much easier than day one, so there's that! I'll also give you my opinion about the detox as a whole and how I feel after the whole process.

See you all tomorrow!

XO,
Leslie

What's Up Wednesday {2.22.17}

During school breaks are the only time that you'll hear me say that I'm sad it's already Wednesday. Slow the week down please!

It's the end of February and that means that it's time for a What's Up Wednesday!

I'm linking up with Shay, Sheaffer, and Melissa to share what's been happening since the last time we caught up!

The questions that we answer are as follows...

What we're eating this week

This month is all about making sure to eat right. I've been doing a lot of smoothie bowls like the one seen below. It's delicious and surprisingly filling too!

We've also been making homemade and healthy copycat Chipotle burrito bowls, grilled Italian chicken and spaghetti squash just to name a few things! I'm proud of how well I'm doing with eating more healthy considering this girl will throw down on a cheeseburger without a second thought.

What I'm reminiscing about

What I'm loving

Can you spot the similarity between all of these photos? I cannot stop wearing these Adidas Superstars. They literally match with everything and they're so easy to throw on. I've blogged about them several times already but if you missed it, make sure you order a whole size down from your normal size. I typically wear an 8.5, but had to buy a 7.5 in these!

Find them here

What we've been up to

Same old things! A lot of work and a lot of grad school.

What I'm dreading

I'm dreading moving to a new school next year. Our school was so old that they're rebuilding a whole new school for us and moving into it over the summer is going to be ROUGH.

What I'm working on

Lots of new jewelry! Even though it's already the end of February, it has been very warm here down in GA. We're starting to transition into more spring looks to compliment any outfit ranging from sundresses to jeans and booties.

Find any of the necklaces above here

What I'm excited about

Yesterday I hosted a Bachelor viewing party with lots of friends from work. I'm excited to share more about that with you tomorrow!

I'm also super excited to celebrate 7 years with Ryan at the beginning of March! Time has flown SO FAST and I cannot believe we're celebrating 7 years in love!

What I'm watching/reading

I'm finally caught up on This is Us. Y'all, this show is easily in my top 3 favorites of ALL TIME! If you aren't watching it's probably because you don't own a television because let's face it.... #biggestcraze

I'm also finishing my fourth book of the month! Check back in on the 27th to see what I read this month! So far there have been 3 GREAT ones and one snoozer.

What I'm listening to

I'm listening to a lot of music on my running playlist recently! Lots of pick me up tunes to get my adrenaline going!

What I'm wearing

Nothing particularly interesting or new! That means it time to go shopping! ;)

What I'm doing this weekend

Nothing planned quite yet!

What I'm looking forward to next month

Celebrating 7 years with the one I love! Take a look at some pictures throughout our relationship!

Baaaaaaabies!

The year of the motorcycle accident. You can't even imagine how grateful I am for this pictures existence.

Have to get that free Chick-Fila

What else is new

I've already mentioned this, but a girlfriend and I are headed to Miami in a few weeks! Looking forward to some sun and cocktails!

What is my favorite beauty product

Does dry shampoo count as a beauty product? If it does, Bastiste is my fav! It's inexpensive and gets the job done!

Come back tomorrow for a recap of my Bachelor viewing party last night! :)

XO,
Leslie

Tuesday Talk

Happy Tuesday!

Today I'm linking up with Erika and Ashley to chat about life!

Today I'm asking your opinion on the....

Fitbit Charge 2

So I used to have the Jawbone UP 2 and LOVED it. It was cute and suited my needs, so all was well. Several months ago the band broke while I was getting dressed. No, not when I was doing anything crazy with my hands. I was literally putting on a shirt. I contacted Jawbone to get it replaced and no one has responded, so I'm writing off Jawbone for my activity tracker needs.

My attention has been turned to the Fitbit Charge 2. Of course they would come out with a super pretty, limited edition rose gold version that costs about $50 more. I wish I were someone who could settle for black, but I have serious heart eyes for this particular one! I have several questions, so if anyone has insight...it would be a HUGE help!

Does it seem accurate in terms of steps taken?

Is it too bulky?

Does it sync up with My Fitness Pal?

Just wanting to make sure that it's the right fit before I take the plunge and purchase it. Thanks so much ahead of time for all of your help!

Be sure to come back tomorrow for What's Up Wednesday!

XO,
Leslie

Friday Favorites {2.17.17}

Thank goodness it's Friday!

Next week we're off for our February break and I'm jumping with joy!

Today I'm linking up with Erika, Andrea, and Narci to share some of my Friday Favorites!

I have all of the heart eyes for these shoes! I haven't purchased them yet because I need your help! Which do you prefer for spring/summer?

Top here / Bottom here

Still obsessing over these sneakers. I must be on a casual sneaker kick, because it's all I'm looking for!

Allison and I have rebranded our super new business. I started off just connecting it to the blog, but felt like it needed it's own identity before we really had any sort of following. Be sure to follow our Instagram here for most recent OOTD pictures and our newest designs!

Visit our Etsy store here

I'm headed on a girls trip to Miami during the first week of April! Wahoo! I've been a few times, but only when I was young. You all have such good recommendations, so I need great restaurants, bars, and must do activities while I'm there!

Those are my favorites for the week! I hope you all have fun plans this weekend!

Leslie
